Immigration Assessments
Psychological evaluations prepared with clinical care, cultural sensitivity, and respect for your story.
This Is About More Than Paperwork
Going through the immigration process can be one of the most stressful and uncertain experiences a person or a family can face. The legal system can feel overwhelming, timelines are unclear, and the decisions are deeply personal.
It is about safety, family, stability, and the chance to build a future.
If you have been told that you need a psychological evaluation, it can feel like one more thing to manage in an already difficult process. This part can be clear and supported.
At Prepare to Change, we understand the emotional weight of immigration proceedings. We also understand how much it matters to have your experiences heard, understood, and documented with care.
Immigration Evaluations We Provide
Our licensed psychologists provide immigration-focused psychological evaluations for matters including:
- Asylum
- Extreme Hardship Waivers
- U Visas
- VAWA petitions
- T Visas
- Cancellation of Removal
- Other immigration-related psychological evaluations requested by your attorney
We conduct these evaluations with clinical care, cultural sensitivity, and respect for each person’s story.
Many people seeking immigration evaluations have experienced trauma, persecution, violence, displacement, loss, or family separation. These are lived realities, and they deserve to be understood with dignity.
What the Evaluation Includes
Our evaluations typically include a comprehensive clinical interview, a review of relevant documents when available, appropriate psychological testing when clinically indicated, and a detailed written report.
The report is designed to assist your attorney and the court in understanding the psychological impact of your experiences and the clinical issues relevant to your case.
We work closely with immigration attorneys so the evaluation addresses the questions most important to your case, while maintaining clinical integrity and objectivity.

What to Expect
From the first phone call through the completed report, our goal is to make the process clear, organized, and supportive.
We will explain each step, answer your questions, and help you understand what to bring to your appointment.
Where This Work Happens
Prepare to Change is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit counseling center, and that structure is the reason this kind of evaluation stays reachable for the families who most often need it.
Our team spans three license tiers: licensed therapists, associates working toward licensure, and master’s-level trainees. Every pre-licensed clinician carries their caseload under close, ongoing supervision, which is our quality commitment across everything we do.
Alongside evaluations, we offer therapy for people carrying immigration-related stress, from age ten through adulthood, individually, as couples, and as whole families. Our clinical work is relational and depth-oriented, and trauma-informed care shapes the pace of all of it.
We are in Tustin and Newport Beach, with therapy available online anywhere in California.
