The therapists who work through Soul Sanctuary practice from a Christian faith. They hold scripture as God’s living word, and they believe every person is created with purpose and dignity.

We also want to come alongside the local church.
Soul Sanctuary was started by April Twenhafel, LMFT, our Chief Operating Officer, and she leads it.
Churches and mental health care have spent a long time wary of one another, and the people caught in the middle are the ones who pay for it. Soul Sanctuary exists to work on that from both sides.

The Practice Behind Soul Sanctuary
Prepare to Change is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit counseling center, and that structure is the reason care here stays reachable. April puts the point of it plainly: “I love that we aim to provide high quality therapy to people of all socioeconomic levels.”
Our team spans three license tiers: licensed therapists, associates working toward licensure, and master’s-level trainees. Every pre-licensed clinician carries their caseload under close, ongoing supervision. That structure is our quality commitment, and it means a family sitting with an associate has more than one clinical mind on their care.
Our clinical work is relational and depth-oriented, drawing on attachment-based and psychodynamic therapy, family systems, and CBT.
We see clients from age ten through adulthood, individually, as couples, and as whole families, at our Tustin and Newport Beach offices and online anywhere in California.
