Individual Therapy
Depth-oriented therapy for adults who have spent a long time being who everyone needed them to be.
The Version of You That Gets Left Out
Last night, at dinner, you told everyone you were fine. You’re good at that part. They believe you at least enough to leave you alone.
For a long time, being who you needed to be was the safest way to belong. In your family. In your relationships. In your church. At your workplace.
You learned early what was acceptable, what was too much, what needed to stay hidden. You adapted, and it worked, mostly.
Your Mask Is Starting to Crack
It is the same fight on repeat with the people closest to you. And it’s the same internal struggle that keeps you locked into those old patterns.
The distance that will not close. The feeling that no one really knows you, even after all this time.
Or even subtler than that, a persistent sense that the life you are living sits a little to the side of the one you were meant to live. That somewhere underneath all the coping and performing, there is a version of you that never got to show up.
Meet the Part You’ve Been Hiding
The performing made sense. It kept you safe. It kept you close to the people whose approval you needed.
Here, we meet that hidden part with presence. You will be understood before anyone tries to fix you.
Real change happens inside a genuine relationship with someone willing to sit with you in the hard part.

We Go Deeper Than Managing Your Symptoms
At Prepare to Change, lasting change happens when we reach what sits underneath the symptom. We stay with what you are feeling, and we get curious about why certain experiences keep finding you.
We trace where the pattern came from and what it has been protecting.
Our clinical work is relational and depth-oriented, drawing on attachment-based and psychodynamic therapy and CBT. We match the approach to you, and we sit with you in the depth of it rather than handing you a technique and sending you home.
We treat the whole person. Your history. Your relationships. Your sense of self.

Start Showing Up to Be Known
The people we have walked with describe a shift that is hard to name at first.
You find yourself responding where you used to react. Speaking up where you used to go silent. Taking a breath where you used to explode.
There will be a steadier sense of who you are underneath who you were told to be and beneath the self you learned to perform.
Your relationships will change, too. They change because you did. You stop waiting to be seen. You start showing up to be known.
And the next time someone asks how you are doing, “fine” stops being your reflex.
Where This Work Happens
Prepare to Change is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit counseling center, and that structure is the reason depth-oriented therapy here stays within reach.
Our team spans three license tiers: licensed therapists, associates working toward licensure, and master’s-level trainees. Every pre-licensed clinician carries their caseload under close, ongoing supervision. That structure is our quality commitment, and it means your clinician has more than one clinical mind behind their work.
We see clients from age ten through adulthood at our Tustin and Newport Beach offices, and online anywhere in California.
Take the First Step Toward Being Known
If any of this sounds like where you are, the next step is simple.
The first conversation runs 20 minutes and costs nothing. You will talk with one of our clinicians, get a feel for the fit, and ask whatever you are wondering about.
Start With a Conversation
Twenty minutes, free, no obligation. Tell us what is going on, and we will tell you honestly whether this is the right place for you. If it turns out we are not, we will point you toward somewhere that is.
Two offices, Tustin and Newport Beach, plus online sessions anywhere in California.
