Teen Therapy

For teens navigating the stress and pressure of a changing world

Locked Behind a Slammed Door

The door slams down the hall. Then the house goes still.

Later, you pass each other in the kitchen. Neither of you knows what to say.

Then there is the car ride, where the silence sits between you the whole way.

You’re Both Working Harder Than the Other Knows

For you as the parent, it feels like watching your child drift while you try to hold on loosely enough. You lie awake wondering if you are doing too much or too little. You replay conversations, hoping you found the right thing to say.

For your teen, it feels like living under a spotlight they never asked for. Like being misunderstood while they are trying to explain. Like carrying pressure and expectations and feelings that have no words yet.

Both of You Want the Same Thing

Underneath it, both of you are reaching for the same thing. To feel close again. To feel safe again. To trust that this hard stretch will leave your family intact.

The distance opened without anyone failing. To us, this is a relationship under strain.

Relationships heal.

Your Teen Never Has to Perform Here

This work is real. It moves at the pace of trust.

Our work is grounded in trauma-informed care, emotional development, and relational therapy. We pay attention to what shows on the outside and to what is happening inside the body, inside the nervous system, inside the space between people.

Sometimes, that looks like helping your teen find language for feelings no one taught them to name. Sometimes, it looks like helping you see what sits underneath the behavior. Sometimes, it simply looks like making a room where everyone can arrive as they are.

You can begin without a polished story. You just need a place where someone is steady enough to sit with you while you figure it out.

Picture the Same House a Few Months from Now

The door still closes hard some nights, and the evening survives it.

The kitchen fills with laughter rather than silence. The car ride home comes with a real conversation.

More confidence where there used to be constant self-doubt. More words where there used to be silence and conflict.

More of the feeling that you can find your way back to each other, even when things are still hard.

Where This Work Happens

Prepare to Change is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit counseling center, and that structure is the reason a family can get their teenager real help here without cost deciding it.

Our team spans three license tiers: licensed therapists, associates working toward licensure, and master’s-level trainees. Every pre-licensed clinician carries their caseload under close, ongoing supervision. That structure is our quality commitment, and it means your teenager has more than one clinical mind on their care.

We see clients from age ten through adulthood, individually and as whole families, at our Tustin and Newport Beach offices and online anywhere in California.

Start With an Easy Conversation

Long before the therapy begins, the welcome does. We start by listening. To your teen. To you. To the space between you.

Trust gets time to grow before anyone asks your teenager to open up.

The first conversation runs 20 minutes and costs nothing. We will walk you through what the process looks like, and together, we will take the first step toward a home that feels more grounded and more open than it does today.

Start With a Conversation

Twenty minutes, free, no obligation. Tell us what is going on, and we will tell you honestly whether this is the right place for you. If it turns out we are not, we will point you toward somewhere that is.
